I’m often asked what I mean by lifestyle shoot. What’s so different about them than your typical meet at the park in matching outfits photo shoot? While I’m all about fun parks, lifestyle sessions have a uniqueness all of their own. Instead of structuring the session around different family combinations and poses instead we build the shoot around an activity that the your family loves. This can be anything from baking cookies in the kitchen to having a picnic on the swing set outside. It can be a family outing to the grocery store or coffee shop. I confess I’ve been dying to do one that involved a pillow fight. The final results often end up delivering some of the most genuine expressions and emotions I’ve ever seen especially from children. The pros are easy to spot when you think about it, instead of being bribed and coaxed to smile they get to spend an afternoon doing something fun with mommy and daddy and the photographer just happened to be along capturing it. It’s not always just the little ones though. 😉
This doesn’t mean I don’t usually sneak in one more ‘formal’ shot for the Christmas cards and all, I definitely know those are important too. There’s just something really special about capturing kids and your family at that particular moment just being together not worrying about everyone making eye contact with a camera. And I really love that.
Have I sold you? Are you interested in scheduling your own lifestyle session? Maybe you love the idea but are drawing a blank on what would be the best plan for your family? Send me an email and I’d be happy to chat with you and even send you a list of potential ideas. I keep one of my own running all time and I love getting to share inspiration!
